Visual Effects Director
Paul Lasaine grew up in the San Fernando Valley in California, spending most summers visiting national parks with his family where he gained an acute appreciation for the beauty and complexity of nature. After graduating from the California State University at Northridge with a degree in illustration, Paul landed a job at Walt Disney Studios first as an illustrator, then as a matte painter, working on such films as Aliens 3, and Batman Returns. He headed Disney’s Matte Painting Dept. until his departure for the newly formed DreamWorks Animation in 1994, where he worked on The Prince of Egypt and The Road to Eldorado as a designer, painting supervisor, and art director. In 1999, Paul moved to New Zealand to become an art director on Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Paul has since focused on design for animation, working at DreamWorks, Sony, Laika, and Warner Brothers where he is currently the Production Designer on an upcoming animated feature. He lives in California with his wife, their daughter, and two cats.
